UNIPOL PEOPLE FOR 2020 ITALIAN FOOD EMERGENCY
Two million meals offered all over Italy for people suffering serious difficulties
Through donations made by Unipol Group employees, agents and their business partners
The other side of the Coronavirus was that there was an increase in the needs of families and people who had already been experiencing serious financial difficulties. Unipol Group employees, agents and business partners therefore wished to make a real contribution towards those who required essential goods to survive.
The project was carried out in tandem with the initiative “We people of Unipol, proudly Italian because....”, in which all our colleagues sent a photo taken during the lockdown, along with a reflection on how they identified with the national effort made to encourage resilience and get through the emergency.
The goal to donate two million meals was reached thanks to the overwhelming response by the Unipol people; the meals will be provided in the form of foodstuffs by the Banco Alimentare network (food bank network) through 7,500 associations and charitable organisations that help people experiencing difficulties all over Italy.
This action was taken to help all those people who cannot afford to feed themselves now, also due to the financial effects of the pandemic. It also shows the commitment of the world of Unipol to the community, in line with the corporate responsibility principles that the Group has always followed. The Banco Alimentare network has been salvaging excess food from the agri-food supply chain and organising national food collections since 1989 - including Colletta Alimentare (National Food Collection Day), another project supported by the Unipol Group - to distribute food to people in need.
